REFERENCE PHOTO GUIDE

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is about how to select a good reference photo.
*Please keep in mind that each portrait is a reflection of the reference photo provided. If a good reference photo cannot be supplied, Charcoal Creations reserves the right to cancel your order.

Photos that are NOT good reference photos:

Poor Lighting: Causes shadows which wash out important details.
Obstructed View: Important features of your pet partially obstructed (i.e. lying down or against something).
Blurry or Out of Focus: Blurry or out of focus photos may lack necessary detail for the artist to create a high-quality portrait.

Photos that are GOOD reference photos:

Natural Lighting: Use natural lighting if possible as it provides the most accurate shadows and details.
Eye Level: Get on your pet’s level. Straight-on photos or side profiles work best as they minimize distortion.
Clear Focus: High-quality, clear images show more details, which in turn can be conveyed in the portrait.
It is recommended to have a few options ready to send to the artist.
Please note that while we strive to create a portrait that closely reflects your reference photo, there may be slight variances in the final artwork due to artistic interpretation.
